Michal Tanko, born and raised in the Czech Republic in 1983, is a painter now based in Switzerland. His artistic path is closely connected to personal imagination, music, and the poetic world of comics. After moving to Switzerland, he continued to develop a practice rooted in dreams, memory, and the inner landscapes of the mind.

Tanko works primarily in oil and identifies strongly with Surrealism. Inspired by Salvador Dali, he committed himself fully to oil painting in 2008. His compositions transform dreams and impulses from the subconscious into enigmatic visual spaces, where time appears suspended and familiar reality gives way to imagined universes. Vivid colour, symbolic objects, shifting perspectives, and theatrical landscapes create scenes that move between narrative, fantasy, and psychological reflection.

Between writing and drawing, Tanko developed his own alphabet, “EMERGENTIA.” His book “SKY-CAK IQX,” originally published in a limited edition in 2013, combines paintings, sketches, poems, and personal reflections and was released as a digital edition in 2026. His planned handwritten book “DC CHRONICLE – Volume I” documents the development of “EMERGENTIA” and is expected to be published in 2027.

His exhibition experience began with smaller presentations in Prague and has continued in Switzerland, where his works have also entered private collections. His surrealist practice has reached a wider international audience through a feature in Artventurous Magazine, Issue 40, published in connection with the 2024 Art Basel Miami edition.
