Floria Rey is a Berlin-based multidisciplinary artist and violinist. Her practice explores the relationships between light and space, memory and nature through painting, sculpture, installation, and performance. Across these media, she investigates the tension between surfaces and the spaces that lie beyond them, using passages of light and air to create works that remain open, searching, and evolving.

Rey is fascinated by the way sunlight enters an interior and briefly transforms both the atmosphere and the objects it touches. For her, these fleeting moments possess an almost magical quality and create liminal spaces suspended between reality and memory. Her paintings seek to preserve this sense of temporary transformation.

The artist builds her surfaces through an intensive process of scraping, turning, layering, and repeated reworking. Like palimpsests, the finished compositions retain traces of earlier states, revealing their material history and suggesting the passage of time. This dialogue between illumination, memory, and matter forms the foundation of her artistic language.

Rey’s work has been exhibited internationally in New York, Miami, Bristol, Luxembourg, Milan, the 2022 Venice Art Biennale, Barcelona, Palma, Quebec, Berlin, Paris, Zurich, and the 2026 Seoul Microbiennal.
