Hauke Andersen, born in 1962 in Westerland on the island of Sylt, Germany, had limited early contact with art. As a child, he spent hours copying characters from the Zack comic series, fascinated by realistic depictions such as “Lieutenant Blueberry” (illustrated by Jean Giraud) and “Michel Vaillant” (illustrated by Jean Graton). Encouraged by his art teachers, his passion for visual arts steadily grew.

This passion led him to study design at the IND in Hamburg, focusing on graphic design and communication design with an emphasis on illustration. During his studies, he developed a strong understanding of color theory and composition. Mastery of ink, watercolors, marker pens, and especially the airbrush technique broadened his artistic capabilities, perfectly suited to his interest in realistic rendering.

With the rise of digital technology, Andersen transitioned into digital illustration, adopting tools such as Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop, which became indispensable in his work.

Since 2012, he has returned to oil painting, a medium he first explored as a teenager. His renewed interest was inspired by contemporary realist painters such as David Kassan and Omar Ortiz, motivating him to deepen his skills in this complex technique.

After many years working for publishing houses and industry clients, Andersen began marketing his own artworks, focusing on large portraits and contemporary still lifes, which remain central to his portfolio.

He currently lives and works in Hamburg, Germany.
